Septic System Maintenance: An Introduction

Call A Septic Repair Company To Check Your Septic Tank

If you live out of town, then you probably need to have a septic system installed on your property so that all your wastewater has someplace to go. Unlike a sewer line, which you don't have to do too much to unless you get a clog, you need to do work to maintain your septic system. That includes getting your septic system cleaned regularly. If you aren't sure how frequently you should have it cleaned out, then you can check with your septic repair company. They can give you a good idea as to how often your tank needs to be cleaned. What are some of the things that you need to do with your septic tank?

Pump It Out

Because all the wastewater from your house goes into your tank, there are solids that are going to collect in your tank. All the water and solids go into the first part of your tank. Inside that first chamber, there is a bunch of anaerobic bacteria that will start to munch the solids. As the solids and the sludge that the bacteria produces start to separate out, they will all sink to the bottom. That lets the water in the tank start the filtration and cleaning process, and then it will move into the second part of the tank. The sludge and solids will eventually build up to the top of the tank and block water from flowing through the tank. When that happens, your tank isn't much good to you at all, so you need to call a company that will come suck all the gunk out of it. It's generally a pretty quick process, and once it's done, your tank should be pretty empty and ready to go.

Spray it Out

If you are having problems with your leach field, your tank isn't able to empty itself fully. If there is a problem with your septic tank, the septic repair company can use a spray jet to clean out the pipes that go under the leach field. These jets spray out water under high pressure, which will cut through just about anything that might be clogging the pipe. That will allow everything to flow from the tank to the leach field again.

If you have a septic system, it's important to make sure that you maintain it and get it cleaned regularly. Any problems can mean that you can't get rid of the wastewater that gets produced in your area. If you aren't sure when the tank was last cleaned, call a septic tank repair company so that they can clean it out for you.
